If you have a limited budget, you can change the whole look of your home just by changing the lighting. This can be as simple as changing the shade or covering or by choosing a new style of light fitting. This is an inexpensive way of making a simple change and could really enhance your home..

Figure out what you want the focal point of the room to be. This is going to be one thing that the room is going to centre around. It might be a piece of furniture, a window or some art, you can choose whatever you want as a focal point. Once you have chosen you can arrange everything else in the room to compliment your focal point.

For rooms with high ceilings, you might find that you have to vary where your lights are placed.  It is a known fact that high ceilings can dim the lights so to counteract this effect, choose lighting that is at different heights, that way the whole room can be illuminated in the way that you want.

When considering your interior design, be aware of the amount of usable space you have to work with. If you try to fit too much in, the room will just look small and overcrowded and no matter how beautifully your decorations are, it will not be a pleasant experience.

Get creative. Even if you don’t consider yourself a great artist, you can make a wonderful collection of art. Draw a symbol or an abstract piece on a piece of drawing paper. It doesn’t have to be that big. Put it in a high quality frame. If you want really do something nice, create 3 or 4 drawings and frame them all together.

Use your own individual style when you are designing the rooms in your home. While it is desirable to create a design that suits other people, you will be living in that space so it must be pleasing for you to look at. If you want a retro theme or want to accessorise with pretty cushions, go ahead and do it. If you don’t like it, you can always change it later on

A coffee table is quite a useful piece of furniture as it is useful and depending on the style you choose, nice to look at. The size of a room can be optically changed by choosing different furniture, for instance, a small sitting room can be made to look even smaller by choosing a large leather 3 piece suite whereas if you were to choose a 2 seater couch and a couple of smaller lounge chairs, the room could look bigger than it actually is.
